THE STATEMENT STUD EARRING

This style is like wearing two earrings in one. It is defined by an earring that sits on the ear lobe, (usually a button style) i.e. the 'stud' and then a larger piece dangles from it, which is the statement 'chandelier'. It embues the bohemian and jet set glamour of the late 1960s. The style feels finished off and is incredibly comfortable to wear, especially if you have stretch ear lobes. Think Edie Sedgwick who accessorised with statement shoulder length earrings to screen sirens such as Brigitte Bardot and Elizabeth Taylor.

WHAT IS LUCITE?

Lucite is made from acrylic i.e. thermoplastic. It is a material that has both the clarity of glass and the weight of plastic. Lucite is heavier in “feel” compared to traditional plastics and is of the highest quality.

WHEN WAS IT DEVELOPED?

Lucite was created by DuPont chemists in 1931. It was among the first plastics derived from petrochemicals.
Du Pont licensed the trademark for jewellery making after the World War 2. Beads were mass produced in the 1960’s – early 1980s using this material as well as used in interior design, such as tables.
